The Jackson County Economic Development Board (JCEDB) is a not-for-profit organization 501© (3) focused on economic and community programs that center on the creation and retention of jobs. JCEDB is a group of community leaders, representatives of Jackson County, working together to develop, expand, and strengthen the economic base of Jackson County by organizing and implementing a comprehensive and coordinated community economic development system, which focuses on new business development, as well as retention and expansion of existing businesses. JCEDB’s volunteer Board represents a cross-section of the community working together to encourage economic growth and stability in the county.

As a not-for-profit organization, JCEDB is funded through three primary sources: contracted services, grant writing/administration, and charitable contributions. JCEDB values its working relationships and partnerships throughout Jackson County and the southern Ohio region and maintain strict confidentiality with our clients. JCEDB continues to strive to serve as a resource and a tool for existing businesses as well as new ventures. The Board and Staff of JCEDB actively advocate existing and new business activity. Jackson County’s local economy and its residents’ standard of living depend upon these enterprises. Business people are JCEDB’s “honored guests” and successful public-private partnerships its goal.

Fair Housing Program-Fair Housing Is Your Right

The Jackson County Economic Development Board (JCEDB) office through a contract with Jackson County serves as the fair housing office and offers services to the community by administering the Jackson County Fair Housing Program. The housing coordinator is here to help by answering your housing questions, assisting you in finding the right answers, providing education on your rights and responsibilities and assisting you in filing fair housing complaints. We offer assistance to everyone and there is no fee for this service.

Fair Housing is the law and your right, and everyone is protected by federal and state laws. Everyone has the right to live where you want and can afford. Fair Housing discrimination is illegal. Everyone may freely choose a place to live without regard to your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or because you are disabled or have children in your family and your military status. The law applies in the sale and rental of housing, mortgage lending, insurance and advertising.

The Fair Housing Act was first passed in 1968, shortly after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, and it prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion and national origin. Discrimination based on sex was added in 1974. When the law was comprehensively amended in 1988, it was changed to include discrimination against people because of disability and because of familial status - the presence of children under the age of 18.  On March 24, 2008, a bill went into effect in Ohio that also prohibits discrimination based on military status.

The Jackson County Fair Housing Office offers training, outreach materials and complaint intake to the community. Additionally, we assist you with filing a complaint with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) if you feel you have been treated unfairly.
