Jackson County is literally the “crossroads of Southern Ohio.” Serving as the intersection of U.S. 35 and State Route 32, Jackson County is one of the few locations that can boast of four lane highways going entirely throughout the county in all four cardinal directions – north, south, east, and west.

Jackson County has a deep tradition in fine arts and culture. Pictured above is the Markay Cultural Arts Center, the centerpece of Jackson County's cultural community. The Southern Hills Arts Council is overseeing the transformation of this old downtown movie theater into a modern arts center capable of holding theatrical and musical productions.

Jackson High School's Alumni Stadium is a first class facility. The entire project was funded through individual and local business donations. The stadium seats over 6,000 and features artificial turf. Constructed on top of a hill overlooking Jackson, you can view the town's picturesque apple shaped water tower from the stands.

Living in Jackson County fits almost every kind of lifestyle and enjoyment. As it continues to grow, the county’s population has risen to more than 32,000, while its two largest cities, the county seat of Jackson and the city of Wellston, both have just under 7,000 residents. Major cities such as Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton in Ohio, as well as Huntington and Charleston in West Virginia, are within two hours of Jackson County. The county, however, provides an existence far removed from the hustle and bustle of a metropolitan area and offers a true rural setting.
